A day off… remember those? Back when you could clock out and do whatever you want… ahhh, so much quiet time! Well, us moms don’t really get days off anymore, we maybe get to pee alone if we are lucky. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
This morning I came downstairs to my oldest throwing down rose petals in front of me all the way to the kitchen. There I found a surprise vase of flowers and chocolates waiting for me. There was also a sweet card from my daughter and hand picked flowers from every blooming plant in the yard. Perfection.
I also got to sneak off and join my mom for the first pedicure I’ve had in 10 years and lunch, completely kid free. We are talking full on self care, fully relaxed, me time. I know, pretty amazing right?!
While today I got to go a bit above the norm, it reminded me how important self care really is. When I got home the baby was so excited to see me, and I was genuinely excited to see all my babies. A few hours of time where I didn’t have to tend to anyone but myself, and my cup already feels fuller.
It’s really easy to put everyone else first, and as moms I think we can get away with this for quite a while but that doesn’t mean we should.
Taking a bit of time for yourself, no matter how small, is so important for us to continue to thrive as a mother. As a homeschooling mother who is with their kids pretty much all of the time, self care can be challenging, but I know that if we make it a priority, we can make it happen.
So, how can you make time for yourself this week? What would fill you up? How would that look?

As a fellow home educator and mum I totally get this. It is hard to find time for ourselves but like you I wouldn’t really want it any other way. Hope you had a great Mother’s day.
Great story. It’s hard to have relax time with kids. Even less time when home schooling. Love the idea.
Love this! Taking time for self care is so important!
